Prayer For National Leaders

 

Be with our national leaders, O Lord. Give them courage to face the truth, prudence to make sound judgments and a willingness to work for a strong government. We want always to be your agents for peace in the world--not a peace based on military parity alone, but one that is based on harmony and justice for people everywhere. As we keep ourselves strong and alert in the face of threats to our security, help us to keep alive the vision of a world in which all people are free from political and economic oppression, free to celebrate their unity as your daughters and sons-- children bound together in your love. We offer our prayer in gratitude for the many gifts you have given us, especially the gift of freedom.  Amen.**

 

Father, we commend our nation to your merciful care, that being guided by your providence, we may dwell secure in your peace. Grant to the President of the United States, members of his administration, Congress and all in authority, wisdom and strength to know and do your will. Help them by the power of your Holy Spirit to formulate laws and policies that advance the cause of justice and peace. May our leaders be ever mindful of their calling to serve instead of being served. May your commandments be their guide. And grant that both rulers and people will serve you with one mind and heart.  Amen.**
